Who Is Troy Corbin?

Personal Profiles:

Snow was falling the day they took me home from the hospital where I was born. It seems only natural that I grew up to enjoy winter above all seasons. Home was South Carolina, Mississippi, Kansas, Oklahoma, Indiana, New Hampshire, New York, West Virginia, Maryland, Michigan... and now Alabama. My Dad ( whom I am named after ) built nuclear plants, so we traveled often.

When I was nine my dad bought our family's first computer: a Commodore 64. We didn't have any software or games, just the computer and a manual that taught you how to program it. So I read it cover to cover, absorbing as much information as I could. Of course I took time out to play games when we bought them, but programming was my greatest love. Over time I bought a modem and began experiencing the online world. Back then we didn't have the World Wide Web, or even AOL. Instead I has a subscription to Quantum Link ( which later became AOL ) and I would visit Bulletin Board Systems ( or BBSes ). I continued to program, and won my 8th grade science fair with a prototype Artificial Intelligence program I wrote.

After moving to Alabama I finally realized that the computing world was moving along without me to Windows, so I purchased my first PC: an Acer 486DX-33. One of the first things I decided to do on my new PC was run my own BBS, so I created Phobos; A bulletin board dedicated to custom maps and graphics for Id software's DooM game. I also created a number of my own maps, and I would frequently take the board down for "maintenance" so I could play DooM online with my friends.

I later got involved in writing Open Source software for Linux. My greatest achievement during this time was Knights: A Chess Game. Unfortunately, other obligations have forced me to turn control of the project over to others.

In 2004 I came to work for Avanti Computers, and I couldn't be happier. Since joining the crew I have expanded on my programmer's background in every way I could, though I have a special affinity for networking technologies. Recently I have also started my own business designing websites for local businesses.

Outside of computers I enjoy playing chess, building my business, working on my house, and spending time with my girlfriend Allie.
